london through its neighborhoods: brick lane

A new day, a new side of the city!

On my second day in London, I met up with another friend for breakfast in Brick Lane, where she’s been living for the past year while getting her Masters. Why do I feel like the only person left who hasn’t moved to London for school?

We stopped at Café 1001, a big, airy place with giant couches, delicious pastries, adopted books…

…and a GIANT sign on the door informing patrons that they are under CC surveillance at all times, may be subject to search upon entering the premises, and will be expelled and reported to police if any drugs or weapons are found on their person.
All this to get a coffee?

In any case, I escaped unscathed after ordering my tea, and she and I had a good breakfast on the porches outside, soaking up all that good spring weather and watching the hipsters go by.

I told her that all I wanted from London was a leather bomber jacket (so that I could look like every other girl in the city, obvs) and she suggested I check out Beyond Retro on Chesire Street. Seeing as I’d scored the most amazing vintage winter coat at their store in Stockholm once, I was pretty excited about this prospect.

But nothing in their selection was quite what I wanted…

Brick Lane seems to be nothing but vintage shops – each one unique, each one with a million beautiful finds inside!

And the most charming street art (can you tell that I’m a bit obsessed?)

Nothing says more about a city than how the residents decorate, whether beautiful or vulgar.

(but no, I didn’t see any Banksy!)

Great shots dude! I just now put together who you are—wish I’d figured it out @ the Matador meet-up!

Especially love the street art shot of the bird. That’s Roa. His shit rules.

Whoa, thanks for the heads-up, I’ve always wondered what his name was….and I swear I’ve seen something else by him in the Mission, but maybe that’s just wishful thinking!
