How can anyone go to London without visiting Camden Town?
Well, I don’t know, but somehow I missed it the first time I came round.
An old roommate of mine was half English, and she told me that I had to go if I ever made it back to London.
And I am SO glad that I did!
The entire neighborhood is devoted to cheap shopping, and while immensely cute every stand begins to look the same after a few blocks (didn’t make me love it any less, though!).
Banksy merch was ubiquitous, though you know he’s not seeing a cent…
So were super cheap street eats, and old scooters along the canal to sit and eat on.
Most of the action is centred around the Stables Market, which spans multiple levels both above and underground.
But there are plenty of things to enjoy out on the street.
Inside the covered market, I came across a stand selling pianos découpaged in old sheet music.
(and an impromptu lesson)
A pretty interesting cast of characters was about…
But it was time for me to make my way to Liverpool Street, where I was meeting an old friend of mine who lives in the East End. I love that this trip started out as a way to visit family, but suddenly became an opportunity to visit friends who I hadn’t seen in ages!
Despite my seething hatred of tabloid culture, I wound up grabbing one of the free evening papers to read on the train in an attempt to, you know, gain insight into the local culture (what is with the English media sensationalism, seriously??). I almost made it through the entire headlining story about a local woman who had gruesomely murdered her daughter, but then gave up and went right to the sudoku.
We met up and headed out for dinner at a pub, and spent about half an hour wandering around up through town weeding through all the cheap sports bars until finally coming across The York in Angel.
Not only was it an absolutely charming, old-worldly and adorable pub, but it had amazing vegetarian dishes!
I was sold, immediately.
And love that even when horribly underexposed, Rachel is still the prettiest ♥

Just found your blog. WOW. Love, love, love your photography. You give a great sense of location. Thank you for sharing! I will subscribe to your feed for sure! :)
Wow, thank you so much!! That’s very flattering…glad to know that others enjoy them! I checked out your blog, and I feel like you and I are on the same wavelength – I’m also a vegetarian whose trying to digitise some old film negatives, so there you are :)
Lovely to read your adventures trough london! I love having lunch in Camden during the week-ends and looking at people there :))
x
Thank you miss F! The people-watching was so good. Even though I’ve never been to Harajuku, I definitely felt like I was getting a taste of what that would be like, what with all the eccentric style around :)
You’ve got some amazing shots! I haven’t been to Camden Town yet on my passings through London but you’ve convinced me it’s on my list now for next time :-)
Oh, once I finally visited it I couldn’t believe that I missed it the first time! It has such amazing character that even if it’s not the type of neighborhood someone would hang out in normally, it’s really fun to visit.
Oh, Camden. One of my favorite places in the world.
