Reflections during a Thai Thanksgiving

Flower garlands at a Buddhist temple, Bangkok, Thailand

This year, Thanksgiving is going to be quite different.

Instead of mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie, I’ll be eating green curry and taro boba. Instead of being with family and friends, I’ll be in the company of other night train travellers speeding towards the north. But, surprisingly, that doesn’t get me down – this year, I have a lot to be thankful for.

Inside a marshrutka, Russia
I’m thankful for good friends, old and new.

I’m thankful for adventures, near and far.

I’m thankful for eye-opening new opportunities.

I’m thankful for the feeling of wonder.

But most of all – and not just today, but every single day – I’m thankful to be able to do what I love.

To be free, to be curious, to be unequivocally happy.

So to the world, to the universe, to destiny and fate and luck and chance and hard work and dedication and serendipity -

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

What are you thankful for this year?

Cheers, Kay! The food is certainly delicious…though not quite a replacement for mashed potatoes and gravy ;)
